Identity theft is the worst nightmare for most people across the world. Being a victim of identity theft could be very upsetting both on emotional and financial aspects. And the only key to avoiding the problem is Precaution, you need to do identity theft prevention.

So, how can I protect my personal information?

By knowing some simple precautions as well as being proactive in your financial situation, you’ll help to make sure you do not become the next identity theft victim.

  1. Be Protective
    Be highly protective towards your PIN numbers, particularly at ATMs. Try to remember your PIN number, however if you want to write it down, please be sure you are not writing it down on your ATM card or save it in your wallet or purse. Also, please refuse to provide your credit card information or other your personal information to an unknown caller.
  2. Take all the mails from your mailbox Immediately
    In case you suddenly stop receiving mail, please call the post office as soon as possible. Crooks could forge your signature to get your mail forwarded elsewhere, then get some important information that will let them to apply for credit in your name.
  3. Check your credit report.
    Minimal once or twice a year, you must get a copy of your credit reports. Check for accuracy of data, as well as unauthorized credit accounts, loans or many other types of transactions that don’t belong to you. Report all errors to each of the credit companies immediately. Please carefully review all of your credit records. Make sure those records are accurate and work on fixing immediately if there are any inaccuracies.
  4. Destroy or shred any receipts
    Please destroy or shred credit card receipts, loan applications and many other stuffs with personal information before discarding them into the trash. Thieves could also go through garbage.
